RB Leipzig vs Stuttgart

RB Leipzig and Stuttgart go head-to-head in a lopsided Bundesliga contest at the Red Bull Arena, with genuine top-four hopefuls encountering perennial relegation candidates.

Only a few days after holding record-time champions Bayern Munich to a 1-1 home draw in their 2023 Bundesliga opener, RB Leipzig demolished rock-bottom Schalke 6-1 in midweek league action to close the gap on leaders Munich to just four points. Taking a massive 4-0 halftime lead paved helped Lepzig stretch their outrageous unbeaten run in all competitions to 15 matches (W12, D3), setting them up nicely for what could prove a routine task for Marco Rose’s side. ‘Die Roten Bullen’ have defeated Stuttgart in all but two of their nine previous Bundesliga H2Hs (D2), including six wins in a row before a 1-1 draw in their most recent showdown on the opening matchday.

In the meantime, Stuttgart shared the spoils in a topsy-turvy 2-2 draw at TSG Hoffenheim in midweek Bundesliga action, extending their underwhelming winless league streak to three games (D2, L1). Stuck just one point clear of the dreaded relegation playoff spot, Bruno Labbadia’s charges head into proceedings as one of the worst-performing away sides in Germany’s top-flight. Indeed, ‘Die Schwaben’ are one of only two Bundesliga teams yet to win a single league match on the road this season (D4, L4), with the abovementioned draw at Hoffenheim ending their poor run of four straight defeats on hostile turf. However, they’re unlikely to build on this, considering they’ve lost all four previous Bundesliga visits to Leipzig without scoring, succumbing to multi-goal margins on the last three.
