West Ham United vs Leeds United

London Stadium is the venue as West Ham United and Leeds United go head-to-head in a tasty-looking Premier League fixture.

Back-to-back defeats at the hands of Arsenal and Southampton in mid-December may have thrown a spanner in the works, but West Ham are seemingly back on the rails, having won their last three Premier League games on the trot. Worryingly, though, the ‘Hammers’ have suffered three losses in their five Premier League home matches played on Sundays this season (W2), with the winning goal in each of them consistently arriving on or beyond the 70th minute. Those five fixtures featured an average of 3.4 per game, highlighting the potential for another goal-friendly affair. The Londoners have only won five of their 23 Premier League meetings with Leeds (D4, L14). Yet, it’s worth noting that three of those five victories came since the visitors returned to England’s top-flight last season, including a come-from-behind 2-1 triumph in the reverse fixture.

In the meantime, Leeds United have an opportunity to gain revenge on West Ham after last weekend’s 2-0 defeat in the FA Cup third round as they look to build on a 3-1 home win over fellow relegation strugglers Burnley on New Year’s Day. After halting a run of three Premier League losses, the ‘Whites’ are gunning for their first back-to-back league victories this season. That could be easier said than done, considering Marcelo Bielsa’s men have failed to win any of their last four away league outings (D1, L3), conceding a staggering ten goals in the most recent two. What’s more, barring a 2-1 win at basement boys Norwich City in late October, the visitors have not won any of their remaining eight Premier League away fixtures this season (D3, L5), scoring a measly average of 0.87 goals per game in the process.
