Borussia Dortmund and Augsburg go head-to-head at the Signal Iduna Park for their opening match of the 2019-20 Bundesliga season.
The hosts enter the new league campaign on a ten-game winning run. Although just two of those wins have come in competitive games, one of them has seen BVB beat arch-rivals Bayern Munich 2-0 in the German Super Cup. Also, all ten of those triumphs have witnessed Dortmund score over 1.5 match goals while eight have seen them restrict their rivals to a maximum of one goal per match. Lucien Favre’s men were impressive at home during the 2018-19 BL campaign, securing 14 wins in 17 BL home outings (W14, D2, L1), which was the league’s best record last season. Interestingly, although all four of their previous home H2Hs with Augsburg saw both teams score, BVB have now allowed failure in those clashes (W2, D2).
Meanwhile, the visitors endured a difficult 2018-19 campaign, finishing just four points above the relegation territory with a total 32 league points. Frustratingly for them, only 13 of those points have come away from home (40.62%). Additionally, eight of their ten BL away losses last season have seen Augsburg concede two or more goals while five have seen them fail to find the back of the net. What’s more, Fuggerstädter have suffered six defeats in their last seven Bundesliga openers (W1, L6), with one of them arriving precisely against Borussia Dortmund. Martin Schmidt can’t rely on his team’s recent for neither, as Augsburg travel here on a three-game losing run, with all of those losses seeing them allow over 1.5 match goals and find the net at least once.
