Borussia Dortmund will be looking to return to winning ways in the Bundesliga when they take on Freiburg at the Signal Iduna Park.
The hosts take the field after suffering a 3-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup and will be looking to bounce back against the side they’ve not lost to in 18 of their previous top-flight H2Hs (W15, D3). Remarkably, going back to 1993, ‘Die Borussen’ have lost just once in 20 Bundesliga home H2Hs (W16, D3, L1), scoring over 1.5 goals on 13 of those occasions. Dortmund had got off to a flying Bundesliga start, brushing aside Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0 at home but went on to succumb to a 2-0 away loss to Augsburg. It now means that none of their 19 Bundesliga fixtures this calendar year has ended in a draw (W15, L5), with the vast majority (73.68%) of those results (wins/losses) seeing the winner on the day keep a clean sheet.
Meanwhile, the visitors have avoided defeat in their opening two Bundesliga matches (W1, D1) despite failing to keep a clean sheet in both. Quick out of the blocks, Christian Streich’s men have netted three of the four league goals this term inside the opening half an hour of play. Freiburg’s early activity is in line with their last season’s efforts to get on the scoresheet fast, as they registered the majority (56%) of their away Bundesliga goals in the first half of play back in 2019/20 (14/25). Yet surprisingly, the ‘Breisgau-Brasilianer’ conceded the opener in 70.59% (12) of their 17 league trips last season, though returning the division-high ten points from such contests (W2, D4, L6).
