Borussia Dortmund vs Schalke 25/11/2017
It is the 91st edition of the Ruhr derby, one of the fiercest football rivalries in German football. So far Dortmund have 32 wins, while Schalke are not far behind with 30. There were 28 draws.
Dortmund boss Peter Bosz is a man under severe pressure as his side have only won of their last nine matches in all competitions and despite the fact that his team have leaked goals during this period, the Dutchman, who moved from Ajax in the summer, has been sticking with his preferred high-pressing, attacking style of play.
This could be Bosz’s first Ruhr derby – and could also be his very last.
He will still be without Marco Reus, Sebastian Rode, Eric Durm and Lukasz Piszczek. However, the possible return of US international Christian Pulisic and defender Pap Sokratis could help make the coach’s life a bit easier.
While Dortmund are freefalling, Schalke are climbing relentlessly. The Royal Blues, who also changed coaches in the offseason, are undefeated in six matches and are now nestled in second place, ahead of RB Leipzig on goal difference.
Schalke will be hoping to beat Dortmund for the first time in six meetings. And Dortmund’s home ground could just give them hope.
After all, since the turn of the millennium, Dortmund have only won four of their 18 home matches against Schalke!
