Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen face-off at the Signal Iduna Park in the DFK Pokal last-16 clash that sees the hosts chasing the fifth successive home triumph across all competitions.
The current Bundesliga leaders come into this meeting with a four-game unbeaten run (W3, D1) during which they’ve scored nine while conceded just three goals. No German team has bagged more goals than BVB (65) this season, with Lucien Favre’s men averaging 2.32 goals scored per match across all competitions. Furthermore, the Black and Yellows have notched over 1.5 goals per match in 13 of 14 competitive home outings, scoring over 2.5 goals per game nine times in the process. A potential worry for Dortmund fans could be that their team failed to keep a clean sheet in five of their last six competitive games, conceding exactly one goal each time though.
Meanwhile, the visitors have won just one of the previous six meetings across all competitions (W1, D3, L2), conceding over 1.5 goals per match three times in the sequence. Werder’s huge defensive problems have seen Florian Kohfeldt’s men failing to keep a clean sheet in 12 of their last 13 competitive encounters. Another troubling fact for Kohfeldt is that his side lost on three of their last six road trips (W1, D2, L3). On the other hand, the River Islanders are the only team in the German top flight that managed to score in every single game this season. The Green-Whites’ tendency to go all-out has seen 13 of their last 14 competitive clashes producing goals on both ends.
All ten of the previous H2H meetings between these two have seen both teams finding the back of the net, while nine of them produced over 2.5 goals.
