The 2019 Copa America finalists meet again at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum as Peru take on Brazil in an international friendly fixture.
It didn’t work well for Peru against Brazil in the recently finished Copa America, as they’ve lost both of their H2H in the competition, each by a margin of multiple goals (5-0, 3-1). What’s more, going back to the beginning of the new millennium, Los Incas have outscored Brazil only once in 13 H2Hs (W1, D3, L9). While all three of their draws in that period ending with the same 1-1 scoreline, six of Peru’s defeats have seen them lose to nil. Even though they’ve reached the Copa America final, it’s been a turbulent year for La Blanquirroja, who won less than half (4) of their matches in 2019 (W4, D2, L5). Although five of those games have featured over 2.5 goals, just two have seen both teams score.
Meanwhile, the reigning Copa America winners are in the midst of a purple patch having won 13 of 17 games in the post-World Cup period (W13, D4). Almost impenetrable Selecao defense has kept a clean sheet on 13 occasions across the same sequence, allowing over 1.5 match goals only once – in a 2-2 draw with Colombia last time out. Also, a free-scoring Brazil team has netted 2+ match goals in eight of their last ten outings, bagging two or more goals in the second half five times in the process. Additionally, Brazil’s last defeat to a South American nation dates back to June 2017 (a 1-0 loss to Argentina), after which they went on to secure six wins in eight wins in 12 clashes with the continental rivals (W8, D4).
