Brazil will be looking to post their first victory since winning the 2019 Copa America back in July (D1, L1) when they take on Senegal at the Singapore National Stadium.
The Brazilians have not failed to impress ever since exiting the 2018 FIFA World Cup in the quarter-finals. Although they go into this match on the back of a narrow 1-0 loss to Peru in a friendly last time out, it was their only defeat in the last 18 outings (W13, D4, L1). Impressively, 11 of Brazil’s 13 post-World Cup triumphs have seen them beat their opponents to nil, with the reigning Copa America champions scoring 2+ match goals ten times along the way. It will the second time for the past three years that the Seleção face an African nation, with Tite’s side beating Cameroon 1-0 in their last such encounter.
Meanwhile, the Lions of Teranga have done well in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), going all the way down to the big final where they were beaten 1-0 to Algeria. Notably, none of Senegal’s seven matches in the competition has seen both teams score, with just one featuring more than two goals (W4, D1, L2). But, it will be their first senior match since exiting the AFCON and also their first head-to-head meeting with the five-time World Cup winners. Aliou Cissé’s side have proved to be a team to beat over the past 12 months, having lost just two of 13 games in that period (W10, D1, L2). What’s more, nine of those wins have been accompanied by a clean sheet, with Senegal also preventing their rivals from scoring twice per match in all of the remaining five games.
