Chile vs Germany 3/7/2017
Petersburg will crown a new Confederations Cup champion. It’s free-scoring Germany against a tenacious Chile. Julian Draxler versus Alexis Sanchez. Or the battle of Bayern Munich colleagues Arturo Vidal and Joshua Kimmich. Both sides met just last week in group stage play, battling to an entertaining 1-1 draw. Sanchez scored six minutes in, but that was cancelled out by Lars Stindl minutes before the interval. The Germans swiftly dispatched Mexico 4-1, thanks to a quick brace by Leon Goretzka inside 8 minutes. Chile, meanwhile, outlasted Portugal on penalties after a cagy goalless draw. The reigning South American champions, playing in their third straight tournament final in three years, have never won a competitive match against the Germans. The two victories in the all-time head-to- head, both earned in the 1960s, were friendlies.
