Eintracht Frankfurt and Mainz go head-to-head at the Commerzbank-Arena, as the home team hope to break a three-game winless run in the Bundesliga (BL) H2Hs (D1, L2).
Although last weekend’s 2-1 away win over Wolfsburg brought Frankfurt’s six-game winless league run to a halt (D1, L5), the hosts are still just five points clear of relegation-threatened Fortuna Dusseldorf. ‘Die Adler’ have been continually producing ‘high-scoring’ affairs since football returned to action after the COVID-19 crisis, with each of their four league games in the post-pandemic period witnessing over 3.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Additionally, three of those matches have featured over 1.5 first-half goals, with at least one more goal coming inside the final 15 minutes of play, too.
Meanwhile, the visitors have carried their lackluster performances into the post-pandemic period, as they’ve now failed to pick up a single win in five consecutive league fixtures (D3, L2). In fact, the ‘Karnevalsverein’ have won just twice in 12 top-flight games since the turn of 2020 (D4, L6), scoring under 1.5 goals on nine of those occasions. Mainz will have to find the opening goal if they look to stand a chance here, considering they returned only one point from six BL away matches in which they’ve shipped the opener (D1, L5). But, quick-start Mainz have ‘drawn first blood’ in eight of 15 league trips so far this season, which could encourage the traveling fans.
