Liverpool head to Goodison Park to take on Everton in a massive Premier League showdown, looking to maintain their lead in the H2H stakes (W93, D75, L66).
The hosts have overseen by far their best Premier League start in ages, winning each of their opening three league fixtures, the last three despite a -1 handicap. Indeed, free-scoring Everton have netted over 1.5 first-half goals and more than 2.5 in total in three Premier League games ahead of this round. But, Carlo Ancelotti’s men also conceded precisely one first-half goal each time across that run of three matches. Despite boasting a 100% start to the season, the ‘Toffees’ have failed to beat city rivals at home since 2010 (D7, L2), drawing a blank in six of those nine encounters, including the last four. A shortage of goals has highlighted their recent top-flight H2Hs held at this venue, as evidenced by the fact the five of their previous six such clashes featured under 1.5 goals.
Meanwhile, the visitors were stunned by Aston Villa before the international break, succumbing to a disastrous 7-2 away loss, which marked their heaviest Premier League defeat since 1963. Liverpool’s defensive woes have been brutally exposed at the start of the season, as the ‘Reds’ conceded over 2.5 goals in two of their opening four league matches, shipping a total of 11. Interestingly, three of those four fixtures also produced over 1.5 second-half goals. Away from home in the Premier League, five of Liverpool’s last six games have contained more than 2.5 total goals, 2019/20 included (W3, D3).
