The two sides that have had identical returns from their last five Bundesliga (BL) games face-off against each other at the Merkur Spiel-Arena, as Fortuna Düsseldorf take on Bayern Munich.
The hosts have endured mixed fortunes in their last five BL outings (W2, D1, L2) and are currently sitting just two points clear of relegation-threatened Mainz. Although they’ve lost both of their previous BL home H2H meetings with Bayern via a margin of at least three goals, the ‘Flingeraner’ can draw inspiration from their last two BL home matches (W2). Both of those triumphs have seen Düsseldorf shut out their opponents and hit the net beyond the hour mark. In fact, those two victories have helped Friedhelm Funkel’s side grab 54% of their total BL points (six of 11). Nonetheless, Düsseldorf’s main issue relates to their immense problems in the final third, as they’ve scored one goal or less in four of their opening five BL home matches.
Meanwhile, the visitors have given a proper response to a humiliating 5-1 away loss to Eintracht Frankfurt, beating arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund 4-0 at home last time out. Still, Bayern’s lack of consistency puts them four points below table-toppers Borussia Monchengladbach, and they have an indifferent away form to blame for their current struggling (W2, D2, L1). Although the reigning holders boast the BL’s joint-best attacking record (29 goals scored), only ten of those goals have come away from home (34%). What’s more, 62.5% of their total BL goals conceded have arrived on the road (ten of 16), with the Bavarians failing to keep a clean sheet in four consecutive BL away games ahead of this trip.
