South Korea travel to the Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium to take on Lebanon hoping to maintain an unbeaten start to their 2020 FIFA World Cup Qualifying (WCQ) campaign.
Winners in their last two WCQ matches, the hosts will be looking to leapfrog section-toppers South Korea. Interestingly, both of those triumphs have seen Lebanon open the scoring inside the first 15 minutes and add another one after the break. But, the Cedars have endured a hard time facing South Korea lately, as they’ve lost three of their last four H2H meetings, home and away (D1). All of those defeats have seen Lebanon draw a blank, while two have witnessed them concede beyond the 90th minute. Liviu Ciobotariu can, however, be encouraged by the fact that his players have won three of their last five competitive home games (D2), scoring 2+ match goals in each of those successes.
On the other hand, the visitors go into this encounter on the back of a goalless away draw with North Korea that has brought their two-game winning WCQ streak to a halt. Still, the Taegeuk Warriors have yet to concede a goal in the ongoing qualifying campaign, scoring at least one goal in all four halves of the WCQ football played ahead of their abovementioned draw with the neighbors. After exiting the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Paulo Bento’s men have racked up a four-game unbeaten away run (W2, D2), with three of those matches featuring under 2.5 goals. Another consolation for the traveling side is that they’ve lost just one of their last five competitive trips to Lebanon (W2, D2), with both of those wins seeing them keep a blank sheet.
