Arguably the most exciting fixture on this weekend’s Premier League schedule will take place at the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City entertain Arsenal.
It’s been an underwhelming start to the season for Manchester City, who have accrued a win, a draw, and a loss from their opening three Premier League fixtures. That’s despite Pep Guardiola’s men finding the opening goal in each of those matches. Also, all of City’s three league games so far have seen both teams score, with each producing goals in both halves of play. But, the ‘Sky Blues’ must be confident of coming out on top here, as they have won all four of their previous top-flight H2Hs held at this venue, scoring over 2.5 goals in the last three. Another high-scoring affair is well on the cards, considering that all of Manchester City’s seven Premier League home games post lockdown have featured at least three goals in total (W6, L1).
On the other hand, the visitors have yet to play out a draw this season (W3, L1), with the last three of those results (win/loss) coming despite a -1 handicap. The ‘Gunners’ often put the foot on the gas after the half-time break, as evidenced by the fact that 75% (six) of their eight Premier League goals scored so far arrived in the second half of play. Interestingly, both of Arsenal’s away matches this term saw the winner on the day score inside the opening 30 minutes of action and net precisely three goals (W1, L1). Additionally, none of their eight league trips since the resumption of football in June has ended level (W3, L5), with five producing over 2.5 match goals.
