Manchester United launch their Premier League season at Old Trafford versus a Crystal Palace side they endured mixed fortunes against (W1, L1) in 2019/20.
Manchester United are unbeaten in 14 Premier League games in a row, going back to early February (W9, D5). Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men proved to be a well-organized bunch, shutting out their opponent in nine of those 14 matches, with each of their nine wins during that period coming via at least a two-goal margin. Remarkably, the ‘Red Devils’ have all but two of their 13 Premier League H2Hs held at Old Trafford since 1990 (D1, L1), keeping a clean sheet on 11 of those occasions, including six of the last seven. Curiously, the hosts showed tremendous ability to bounce back after conceding the opening goal, losing only two from eight Premier League home games in which they shipped the opener back in 2019/20 (W2, D4, L2).
As for the visitors, they opened the season with a narrow 1-0 home win over Southampton to bring a dismal eight-game winless Premier League run to an end (D1, L7). A genuine lack of firepower up front saw Crystal Palace fail to get on the scoresheet six times during that eight-game sequence. Palace’s immense goal-scoring problems were brutally exposed in 2019/20, where they finished the season as the division’s second-worst attacking side after racking up just 31 goals from 38 Premier League fixtures. In fact, the ‘Eagles’ failed to find the back of the net in almost half (nine) of the 19 league trips last term.
