Melbourne Victory welcome Chiangrai United to the Marvel Stadium in the AFC Champions League Group E curtain-raiser.
The hosts have endured a mixed start to 2020, picking up just three wins in eight outings in all competitions since the turn of the year (D1, L4). Although the majority (six) of those eight matches have produced over 2.5 goals (75%), only three have seen both teams on the scoresheet (37.5%). However, Victory have won three of their last five competitive home games (D1, L1), keeping a clean sheet in four of those affairs, while scoring over 3.5 goals in two. Interestingly, eight of Victory’s last nine competitive fixtures have featured at least one goal in the first half, with five seeing the opening goal (if any) coming inside the first 15 minutes of play.
Meanwhile, the visitors have won two of three games in the new calendar year, friendlies included (D1), with both of their wins coming to nil and seeing Chiangrai finding the opener in the opening six minutes of the second half. Notably, the Beetles travel to Australia on run of nine consecutive games without a loss (W6, D3), with all of their successes during that period yielding a winning margin of two goals or more. What’s more, Masami Taki’s men have netted 2+ goals in five of their last six road trips in all competitions (W3, D2, L1), with ten of the 15 goals they’ve bagged across those matches arriving in the second half (66.67%).
