Monaco and Montpellier will both be looking to return to winning ways in Ligue 1 when they lock horns at the Stade Louis II this weekend.
All of Monaco’s opening six Ligue 1 fixtures have been notably tight, as each ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (W3, D1, L2). Interestingly, four of those six matches have seen the opening goal arrive before the 10-minute mark, with the other two witnessing the opener come before the half-hour mark. That said, it’s not strange that four of Monaco’s six league games this season saw over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Another high-scoring affair is well on the cards now, as three of their last four top-flight H2Hs have contained 3+ total goals and witnessed both sides hit the back of the net, though ‘Les Monégasques’ picked up just a single win from those clashes (D1, L2).
Meanwhile, the visitors have also endured mixed fortunes at the beginning of the season (W3, D1, L2), although 83.33% of those fixtures featured over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring (5/6). Indeed, free-scoring Montpellier have netted 2+ goals in four of their previous five Ligue 1 outings, scoring the opening goal before half-time on three of those occasions. Montpellier’s league action usually sparks into life after the break, as 65% of their Ligue 1 goals scored/conceded so far arrived in the second half of play (13/20). In turn, ‘La Paillade’ have yet to find the net before half-time in three away league matches this term, conceding twice during that same timeframe. Also, Michel Der Zakarian’s have netted under 1.5 goals in three of their last four competitive trips to Monaco.
