Olympique Lyonnais launch their 2020/21 Ligue 1 season against Dijon at the Groupama Stadium, looking to bring a three-game winless run in the top-flight home H2Hs to a halt (D2, L1).
The hosts were unbeaten in all four Ligue 1 home matches this calendar year (W2, D2) before the coronavirus outbreak curtailed the 2019/20 campaign in France. Notably, three of those fixtures saw Lyon keep a clean sheet, with only one producing over 2.5 total goals. What’s more, a lack of ruthlessness in the final third has seen Les Gones net under 1.5 goals in three of four competitive games since the resumption of football (W1, D1, L2). That’s a sharp contrast compared to the fireworks Lyon’s recent league H2H meetings with Dijon have produced. Indeed, four of their last five top-flight clashes held at this venue have seen over 3.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet.
Meanwhile, the visitors started the new league campaign with a whimper rather than a bang, succumbing to a narrow 1-0 home loss to Angers. What’s more, Dijon have lost three of four Ligue 1 trips this calendar year (D1), conceding over 1.5 goals on all of those occasions. It’s also worth noting that only one side managed fewer top-flight away points than Dijon (six) last season, with ‘Les Hiboux’ picking up just a single win from 14 league trips in 2019/20 (D3, L10)! Moreover, a genuine lack of firepower up front saw Stéphane Jobard’s score a miserly average of 0.5 goals per Ligue 1 trip the last term.
