Real Sociedad and Real Madrid will lock horns at the Reale Seguros Stadium this weekend in a potentially high-scoring La Liga (LL) affair. All but one of their seven competitive H2Hs held at this venue have produced over 2.5 goals, with four seeing over 3.5 total goals and both teams on the scoresheet.
The hosts have failed to seal three points since the league’s restart (D1, L1), as they now trail fourth-placed Atletico Madrid by two points. Real Sociedad’s hopes of securing the Champions League qualification for the next season now face a formidable challenge of a Real Madrid side they’ve lost to in three of their last four top-flight home H2Hs (W1). However, Imanol Alguacil’s men have racked up a five-game LL unbeaten home run ahead of this encounter (W4, D1), restricting their opponents to a maximum of one goal per game in each of those matches. Regardless of the outcome, free-scoring Sociedad are likely to find the net here, given that they are one of three sides that have scored at least once in all 14 LL home games this season.
Meanwhile, the visitors have enjoyed an outstanding league’s restart, scoring exactly three goals per match in both of their LL wins over Eibar and Valencia. However, Los Blancos’ dip in form before the coronavirus outbreak had seen them go from three consecutive LL away victories to back-to-back defeats, with three of those five results (win/loss) yielding a narrow one-goal margin. In turn, ten of Real Madrid’s 14 LL away fixtures this term have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals, with only six of those matches seeing both teams score. But, Zinedine Zidane’s players have often managed to put up a late show on the road. Eight of their 14 LL away games have featured at least one goal (scored/conceded) inside the final 15 minutes of play.
