After losing 2-1 to Paris Saint-Germain in the French Super Cup earlier in the summer, Rennes will host the same rivals to the Roazhon Park for the Ligue 1 (L1) clash with revenge on their minds.
It’s been a positive start to the new L1 season for the hosts, who have pulled off a narrow 1-0 away win over Montpellier on the opening matchday. Unbeaten in their last four L1 home games (W1, D3), Les Rennais will not try to put to an end their eight-game L1 home winless streak against PSG (D2, L6). Far more comfortable at home, Les Rouge et Noir have lost just one of 16 home games across all competitions since the turn of 2019 (W7, D8, L1). Still, the fact that they’ve conceded over 1.5 match goals in five of their previous nine games in all competitions can be a huge problem here.
Meanwhile, the visitors have started the league off on the right foot, securing a comfortable 3-0 home win over Nimes last time out. But, although they’ve collected more away points than any other French side in the 2018-19 campaign (38), the Parisians have suffered four defeats in their last five L1 away games (W1, L4). Frustratingly for PSG, all of those defeats have seen them concede three or more goals, although they’ve found the back of the net each time. Also, 25 of a total 35 goals PSG have conceded last season have arrived away from home (71.42%), with 60% of them coming on the last five trips.
