Roma vs Lazio 19/11/2017
A packed Stadio Olimpico awaits one of the most important Eternal City derbies in years.
Lazio have won all but two of their fixtures in all competitions this season, scoring 31 goals in 11 league matches. Overall, it also represents their best start to a season. A win in the derby will give them their tenth straight victory in all competitions.
Roma have won their last five matches, a 4-2 at Fiorentina which saw them establish a new Serie A record of most consecutive away wins in a row.
Roma and Lazio sit in fifth and fourth in Serie A, both with a game in hand compared to the rest of the top five. A single point separates them.
Defence has been key for Roma, who many thought would struggle after losing defender Antonio Rudiger to Chelsea. They have conceded seven league goals, with eight clean sheets produced.
Lazio’s goal-scoring machine Ciro Immobile will be eager to test his mettle against the Wolves. He has 14 league goals already this season, almost half of his team’s goals output.
Roma, though, are sweating over Radja Nainggolan’s fitness. The Belgian tough cookie was ruled out of his country’s friendly matches against Japan and Mexico with a muscular problem and is a major doubt.
Lazio won this ‘away’ fixture last season 3-1, but that was their first league win over Roma since 2012 and they have actually lost four of the last five against their bitter rivals.
There have been only three draws in the last 12 years, with 11 Roma wins and six for Lazio.
