Werder Bremen head to the Veltins Arena to take on the out-of-form Schalke 04 side they’ve beaten in three of their last four Bundesliga (BL) H2Hs held at this venue (L1).
Although the hosts hope to get back on track as soon as possible, facing the opponent they’ve lost to in three of their last four top-flight H2Hs could make things awkward (W1). 2020 has been a nightmare for Schalke so far, as ‘Die Königsblauen’ have picked up just one singe victory in 11 BL fixtures since the turn of the year (D4, L6), drawing a blank on eight of those occasions! In turn, ‘Die Knappen’ have failed to secure a win in five consecutive league home matches (D2, L3), scoring under 1.5 goals in each of those games. The one consolation for Schalke is that they’ve yet to taste home loss against the sides currently occupying the five bottom places (W2, D2).
The visitors are dealing with their own form problems, having pulled off only one triumph in their last nine league outings (D2, L6). For ‘Die Werderaner,’ goals have been in short supply, too. They’ve failed to find the back of the net in four of their seven previous BL outings, scoring precisely one goal per match in two of the other three. Florian Kohfeldt’s men have failed to shine away from home, too, suffering four defeats in their last seven BL road trips (W1, D2), with three of those losses yielding multiple-goal margins. Conceding the opener could prove fatal for Werder, who lost three of four BL away matches in which they’ve shipped the opening goal (D1).
