South Korea vs Iran 31/8/2017
Iran are googling for their accommodation plans in Russia next year, while the other automatic spot in Group A will be fought out between Korea Republic and Uzbekistan. The Koreans, who sacked Uli Stielike following a string of patchy results, have the upper hand. They lead the Central Asians by just a point, but can’t afford any slips-up. To do that, they will have to crack the Iranian defence, who has yet to pick up the ball from their own net after eight rounds! The Taeguk Warriors, however, can clinch their ninth consecutive World Cup appearance should they beat Iran and Uzbekistan lose to China. If not, all will be decided on Uzbekistan territory, Tashkent on Sept. 5. All four previous meetings have gone Iran’s way, all of them ending in a 1-0 win.
