Spain vs Italy 3/9/2017
In this battle of the traditional powerhouses, the biggest subplot has to be the showdown between the team’s up-and-coming stars, Marco Asensio and Andrea Belotti. Both were absent when Italy eliminated Spain from Euro 2016 last year, but have since become world-beaters. Belotti hit 26 goals for Torino last season and has grabbed four goals from four starts in Italy’s qualifying campaign. Real Madrid’s Asensio, meanwhile, has caught fire too with a couple of stunners against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup. He also grabbed a brace against Valencia in league play last week. Both teams are locked on 16 points with four rounds remaining, and victory for either side here in Madrid will probably give them the golden ticket to Russia.
