The King’s Cup 2019 tournament gets underway at the Chang Arena in Buriram, as Thailand and Vietnam battle it out for the final.
The hosts have endured mixed fortunes in their past ten outings (W3, D3, L4). Interestingly, all three of their wins in that period have seen them beat their rivals to nil, with two of those games ending with the same 1-0 scoreline. Meanwhile, all four of Thailand’s losses in that span have seen them concede over 1.5 goals while scoring one goal or less in each. Sirisak Yodyardthai’s players have also failed to pick up a win in five of their previous home games (D1, L4), conceding over 1.5 match goals across all of those fixtures. Also, War Elephants have struggled to impress in the final third lately, scoring one goal or less in all seven of their previous matches across all competitions.
On the other hand, the visitors have sustained three defeats in their last five outings (W1, D1, L3), with four of those games featuring under 2.5 goals. Impressively, Golden Dragons have been enjoying a purple patch of form before entering the challenging period, having racked up a 17-game unbeaten run between March 2017 and December 2018 (W9, D8). A potential worry for Park Hang-seo could be that Vietnam’s last game dates back to January and has seen them suffer a narrow 1-0 home loss to Japan. What’s more, Vietnam’s last victory over Thailand dates back to 1973, after which they’ve suffered eight defeats in nine H2H meetings with the neighbors (D1, L8).
