Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich will face-off at the Allianz Arena in the Audi Cup final that will see the Germans trying to post their fourth straight win this pre-season.
The Spurs narrowly defeated Real Madrid 1-0 in their semi-final clash to battle their way into the final in their second appearances at this two-day friendly competition. It was Tottenham’s second win in three friendlies this summer (W2, L1), with all of those matches being settled by a narrow one-goal margin. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have endured mixed fortunes in the 2019 International Champions Cup, beating Juventus 3-2 before suffering a 2-1 loss to the Premier League rivals Manchester United. Interestingly, yesterday’s win over Los Blancos was the first time after eight consecutive games that the Spurs managed to keep a blank sheet. However, their problems in the final third have seen them score one goal or less on six occasions across the same period.
Meanwhile, the Bavarians have swept Fenerbahce aside with a commanding 6-1 win, stretching their winning run to three games. Both of Bayern’s previous wins have come in the International Champions Cup, with Niko Kovac’s players beating Real Madrid 3-1 and AC Milan 1-0. Before that, the reigning Bundesliga holders have struggled for consistency at the beginning of their preparations, registering partial success in their first three friendlies this summer (W1, D1, L1). Still, five of Bayern’s six pre-season matches have seen both teams score, with four of them featuring over 2.5 goals.
