Saturday’s Premier League action starts with the London derby as Tottenham Hotspur welcome West Ham United to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Going into this fixture off the back of a narrow 1-0 home win over Brighton & Hove Albion at midweek, the hosts hope to post their fifth victory in as many games at their new venue. Interestingly, all four of the Spurs’ previous triumphs at this stadium have seen them beat their rivals to nil, with two of those victories ending with the identical 1-0 scoreline. Sitting four points above fifth-placed Arsenal, with three league matches left to go, the North Londoners have yet to secure the Champions League promotion spot. Tottenham’s impressive home displays since late-January (W8, D1) that have seen them concede just three goals in nine home clashes across all competitions indicates that Maurizio Pochettino’s men could beat out-of-form West Ham to nil.
On the other hand, a 2-2 home draw with Leicester City last time out has halted the visitors’ three-game Premier League losing streak, but it was the sixth straight league game in which they’ve conceded over 1.5 match goals. A fractured campaign highlighted by a lot of ups and downs has virtually left the Hammers without a chance to qualify for Europe as they sit eight points adrift of seventh-placed Wolverhampton. Notably, just 34.88% of West Ham’s total PL point tally has come away from home, with Manuel Pellegrini’s men still chasing their elusive first competitive road triumph in 2019. West Ham’s disastrous away record since the turn of the year has seen them lost seven of eight road games across all competitions (D1, L7), failing to hit the net five times in the process.
