The Estadio de la Ceramica is the venue, as Villarreal (4th) and Valencia (8th) go head-to-head in an exciting La Liga affair, with a single point separating the teams ahead of the kick-off.
The hosts enter this round on the back of a goalless away draw with Atletico Madrid, which leaves them at two wins from the opening five La Liga fixtures (D2, L1). For Villarreal, the action starts late, as evidenced by the fact that four of their six league goals scored so far arrived beyond the 60-minute mark. Indeed, Unai Emery’s men have failed to get on the scoresheet in four of five La Liga matches to date. But, it’s safe to say that the Estadio de la Ceramica has been a venue of entertainment lately, as five of Villarreal’s previous six league games held here have produced over 2.5 goals, last season included.
Meanwhile, for Valencia, goals have been at a premium at the beginning of the season. The visitors have netted under 1.5 goals in four consecutive La Liga outings following a 4-2 home win over Levante on Matchday 1. Particularly ponderous in attack before half-time, ‘Los Murciélagos’ failed to find the net in the first half of play four times across that run of four games. In fact, they have scored 2+ match goals in just one of 12 La Liga trips since the turn of the year, failing to hit the net in seven of the other 11. Scoring against Villarreal won’t be any easier, given that Javi Garcia’s men have drawn a blank in each of their last three top-flight H2Hs as visitors (D1, L2).
