Wolverhampton Wanderers, who returned to the Premier League after six seasons of wandering between the Championship and League One, will host Everton at the Molineux Stadium, looking to start a new winning cycle and reclaim the elite status they had for so many years. The Wolves were by far the most impressive and most dominant team in the Championship last season, comfortably securing the first place and direct promotion to the Premier League. The former Porto manager, Nuno Espírito Santo, who drove the team back to elite, will look to improve his team’s game after a quite uninspiring performance this summer, as the Wanderers failed to score more than one goal in five out of six matches after the end of the World Cup, which might be their biggest problem this season. On the other hand, Everton, who had huge expectations last season, failed to reach European football after finishing eight on the table, and the new boss, Marco Silva, hopes to help his team reach at least the Europa League this year. However, after a promising start, and an outstanding 22-0 victory over ATV Irdning, the Toffies failed to achieve a win in the remaining six summer friendlies, recording a worrying five defeats during the preparation period.
The two most prominent summer signings, João Moutinho and Jonny Castro, should both start from the first minute for the home side. As for the visitors, the £50 million signing, Richarlison, should lead the attack alongside the likes of Theo Walcott and Cenk Tosun.
