Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool will face-off at the Molineux Stadium in the FA Cup 3rd round as the visitors hope to bounce back from their first Premier League loss this season.
The two already met at the same venue two weeks ago, with Liverpool securing a comfortable 2-0 triumph.
Wolverhampton have emerged as one of the most unpredictable teams in the English top flight, clinching some impressive wins against top-five clubs while dropping points versus some arguably weaker sides. The Wanderers’ consistency issues have seen the secure one victory in their last four games while suffering two defeats in the process. Wolves come into this encounter following a disappointing 2-0 home loss to Crystal Palace that came just three days after they pulled off a stunning 3-1 road win over Tottenham Hotspur. Nuno Espirito Santo could be encouraged by his team’s record against the top-six Premier League clubs (W2, D3, L2) but has to be worried about the fact his players have struggled to keep a clean sheet in their last four competitive outings.
Meanwhile, last weekend’s 2-1 road defeat to Manchester City has brought Liverpool’s eight-game winning run across all competitions to an end, as it was also the Merseysiders’ fifth competitive loss this season. For the first time this campaign, Alisson conceded over 1.5 goals per match, excluding Liverpool’s meetings in the Champions League. However, the Brazilian remains the only goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet 12 times after the opening 21 Premier League appearances. It was also the 12th consecutive game in which Jurgen Klopp’s players managed to find the back of the net as they remain one of three teams that scored on each road trip this term. Moreover, the Reds have scored over 1.5 goals in four of their last five away clashes on English soil, bagging over 2.5 goals twice in the process.
