Saint-Etienne vs PSG 07/01/21

Mauricio Pochettino will make his debut as PSG manager when Paris meet Saint-Etienne at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in an exciting Ligue 1 encounter.

Although St Etienne take the field after avoiding defeat in six of their previous Ligue 1 matches, they drew five of those games (W1), with the last two coming by the same 2-2 scoreline. Curiously, each of their three previous Ligue 1 fixtures has seen both teams get on the scoresheet before half-time and the opener scored within 15 minutes of play. At home, Claude Puel’s men have gone from three Ligue 1 defeats in a row to three consecutive draws, scoring under 1.5 goals on four occasions. What’s more, ‘Les Verts’ have failed to beat PSG in any of their last 11 Ligue 1 meetings held at this venue (D5, L6), drawing a blank in five of their six previous such fixtures.

Meanwhile, the reigning French champions have kept a clean sheet in each of their last three Ligue 1 outings to win two of them via multiple-goal margins (D1). On the road, though, PSG have accrued a win, a draw, and a loss in their three previous league matches, with the games won/lost seeing over 3.5 goals and both teams score. However, ‘Les Parisiens’ often tend to start the calendar year on a convincing note, winning seven of their last ten first fixtures of a calendar year in Ligue 1 (D2, L1). Additionally, they have suffered just two defeats in their 15 previous away league games (W11, D2), both of which came by a single-goal margin. Yet, PSG have failed to win any of their four Ligue 1 matches when conceding the opener this term (D1, L3).
