Roma vs Sassuolo

Backed by a flying start to the season, Roma will be looking to stretch their winning home Serie A run to seven matches when they meet Sassuolo at the Stadio Olimpico.

Despite being held to a goalless HT draw to Salernitana last time out, Roma cruised to a comprehensive 4-0 triumph to build on an impressive 3-1 home win over Fiorentina on the opening weekend. Indeed, Roma’s prolific second-half displays this season has seen six of their seven Serie A goals scored so far arrive beyond half-time. In addition to guiding his Roma side to back-to-back league wins, Jose Mourinho won both legs against Trabzon in the Europa Conference League play-offs. He now looks to complete a 100% five-game start at a new club for the first time in his trophy-laden managerial career. That feat won’t be easy to achieve, as the ‘Giallorossi‘ have drawn 63% of their home Serie A meetings with Sassuolo (W3).

In the meantime, Sassuolo defeated Hellas Verona 3-2 in an enthralling Matchday 1 encounter on the road but failed to carry that momentum into the second round, drawing 0-0 with Sampdoria last time out. However, the ‘Neroverdi‘ can fall back on an impressive away from, as they’ve won each of their previous five Serie A road trips en route to setting a new club record. All but one of those five triumphs yielded a narrow one-goal margin, while each of the last four saw Sassuolo fail to keep a clean sheet. Maintaining that streak could be tricky at the Stadio Olimpico, considering that the visitors have managed just a single victory in 16 Serie A H2Hs (D7, L8). Yet, action-packed football remains well on the cards, as seven of their eight top-flight H2Hs here have seen both teams on the scoresheet.
