Montpellier vs PSG

Paris Saint-Germain take a trip to the Stade de la Mosson to meet bottom-half Montpellier in a tasty-looking Ligue 1 showdown.

Montpellier head into the penultimate round of Ligue 1 matches amid a rotten form, having gone winless in their last seven league games (D2, L5), six of which saw them concede 2+ goals. Yet, with top-flight survival already assured, ‘La Paillade’ will be under no pressure as they look to defy their abysmal eight-match league form against PSG (W1, L7). That could be hard to achieve, as Olivier Dall’Oglio’s men last won at home in league action in January, courtesy of a 3-2 triumph over Monaco. They’ve since failed to win six consecutive home Ligue 1 outings (D3, L3), drawing a blank in 50% of them. Another failed attempt to gain three points would see Montpellier match their longest winless home streak in Ligue 1 this century, dating back to 2004.

Meanwhile, PSG have strolled to their fourth Ligue 1 title in four years, dethroning last season’s champions Lille with a few games to spare. However, since mathematically winning the crown, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have drawn three consecutive league fixtures, including a 2-2 home stalemate with Troyes last time out, where they squandered a 2-0 lead. Delivering action from the offset could prove essential to PSG’s bid to avoid drawing four straight games in a single Ligue 1 season for the first time since 2005. That’s because they’ve gone winless in all eight away league fixtures in which they failed to get on the scoresheet before half-time this term (D4, L4). On the bright side, after drawing a blank in two of their three Ligue 1 away matches (D1, L2), ‘Les Parisiens’ have netted 3+ goals on their last three league travels (W2, D1).
