Lion City Sailors vs Young Lions

Singapore Premier League pacesetters Lion City Sailors play host to rock-bottom Young Lions in a must-win fixture at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

Lion City turned a 1-0 lead into a 2-1 defeat in a mouth-watering Singapore Premier League showdown against Albirex Niigata last time out. Despite snapping a run of seven consecutive league victories, the ‘Sailors’ take the field three points clear at the summit. Unfortunately, that reverse ruined Lion City’s 100% five-game start to the new home league campaign. It also means they have netted precisely one goal across three of their last five home top-flight fixtures. But it won’t matter if they can maintain consistency in their recent league H2Hs. Indeed, they’ve not only won their last six Singapore Super League meetings with Young Lions but kept five clean sheets in that sequence.

In the meantime, Young Lions are having a hard time, as they’ve won none of their last four league outings (D1, L3) since a 4-1 home thumping of Geylang International in mid-April. More importantly, their porous defence conceded 2+ goals in three of those four matches, casting doubt on their chances of containing the league’s second-most prolific attack. Adding to this sentiment, Nazri Nasir’s men have conceded at least twice in all five away league fixtures this season (D1, L4), at an average of 2.6 per game. If there’s some positive to hold onto, then that’s the fact they’ve scored 2+ goals in three of those five matches.
