Seongnam vs Gangwon

Tancheon Stadium plays host to a bottom-half K League 1 six-pointer between rock-bottom Sangmu and Gangwon.

Since a narrow 1-0 defeat at Incheon United in late May, Seongnam have drawn three consecutive league matches, all of which featured under 2.5 total goals. One would think a homecoming fixture could help them get back to winning ways. However, the ‘Magpies’ come into this round as the only K League 1 side yet to pick up a single home triumph this season (D4, L5). Much of Seongnam’s home woes have emanated from their paltry scoring return, as they have netted a league-low six home goals to date. Then it comes as no surprise that they have opened the scoring in only two home league outings this term.

In the meantime, visiting Gangwon pulled off an enthralling 4-2 home victory over Jeju United last time out, ending an underwhelming run of four winless K League 1 fixtures (D1, L3). Despite the visitors’ sticky patch, they’ve been an entertaining team to watch. Their last three top-flight outings have seen 4+ goals and both sides on the scoresheet, highlighting the potential for an action-packed contest. But after losing their last four competitive away matches by a 2+ goal margin, they will be looking to keep things tight. That could be the only way to defy their indifferent four-game away H2H record (W1, D1, L2).
