Subaru Park in Chester hosts a high-stakes Major League Soccer contest between the Philadelphia Union and the New York Red Bulls.

Philadelphia Union trounced DC United 3-1 on the road on their MLS return in August but finished on the receiving end of the same scoreline against Toronto FC last time out. A thumping defeat in Canada halted Philadelphia’s three-game winning run in the MLS, but they remain in pole position to secure a place in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Jim Curtin’s men sit 4th in the standings, 11 points clear of 11th-placed Chicago Fire, mainly thanks to their stellar home form. However, they’ve failed to beat New York RB in their two most recent MLS H2Hs on home soil (D1, L1), netting just once in that sequence.

On the other hand, New York RB’s effort to make a late playoff push is in tatters as they head into proceedings 13th in the Eastern Conference, four points adrift of 9th-placed DC United. The visitors are desperate to turn the corner after losing back-to-back league games ‘to nil,’ though playing on the road won’t help their cause. Barring a 1-0 win at Inter Miami before Lionel Messi’s arrival, they have gone winless on their remaining 11 MLS travels this season (D4, L7), losing the last three in a row by a combined score of 6-2. As the least efficient travelers in the Eastern Conference, the Red Bulls have netted a meager average of 0.5 goals per away league match in 2023!
