Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Liverpool

Saturday’s Premier League action kicks off at Molineux Stadium as Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool lock horns in a lopsided contest.

September’s international break came at the best possible moment for Wolverhampton after a 3-2 defeat at Crystal Palace condemned them to a third loss in four Premier League matches this season (W1). New manager Gary O’Neil has had a fortnight to get to know his players better and potentially orchestrate his first home league win in charge of Wolves. Indeed, their only triumph came at Everton (1-0) on matchday three, with a clean sheet proving decisive for their success yet again. Wolves have gone winless in 35 of their last 37 Premier League games in which they’ve failed to register a shutout (D8, L27). Topically, they ousted Liverpool 3-0 in this corresponding fixture last term.

That defeat halted Liverpool’s otherwise perfect Premier League record against Wolverhampton under Jurgen Klopp (W9, L1). Not only have they won their previous six visits to Molineux in top-flight action, but five of those victories came ‘to nil,’ as was the case in a 3-0 demolition of Aston Villa last time out. The ‘Reds’ have excelled at the beginning of the new campaign, racking up three straight league wins following a 1-1 draw against Chelsea on the opening weekend. Two of those three wins saw Liverpool come from behind to pick up three points, so conceding first won’t faze them much. But despite going unbeaten in 15 straight matches in the build-up to this trip (W10, D5), Liverpool cannot take anything for granted. They went winless in all six early Saturday kick offs last season (D3, L3).
