Manchester City vs Luton Town

The Etihad Stadium forms the backdrop for a lopsided Premier League encounter between table-topping Manchester City and relegation-battling Luton Town.

Manchester City maintained their dream of an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title with a thumping 4-2 win at Crystal Palace last weekend, extending their unbeaten league streak to a mind-blowing 16 games (W12, D4). Fatigue could be an issue here following a goal-glutted 3-3 draw at Real Madrid in midweek Champions League action. However, that’s nothing Man City’s formidable home form can’t undo. Pep Guardiola’s side last lost a Premier League game at the Etihad in November 2022 (W21, D6), most recently thrashing fifth-placed Aston Villa 4-1. Another high-scoring performance is on the cards, considering the Citizens defeated Luton 2-1 in December’s reverse fixture before an overwhelming 6-2 FA Cup triumph in February.

Visiting the Etihad is the last thing Luton need amid a fierce battle for Premier League survival, especially after halting a dreadful ten-game winless league run (D3, L7) with a spirited 2-1 home win against Bournemouth last time out. Level on points with 17th-placed Nottingham Forest at the start of this round, the Hatters head into proceedings fractionally off the safe zone, meaning a damage limitation could be Rob Edwards’ leading assignment. However, the visitors have fared terribly on the road this season, with only dead-last Sheffield United picking up fewer away league points than Luton’s ten (W2, D4, L10). On top of that, they’ve lost four of their last five top-flight matches on hostile turf (D1).
