Brentford vs Newcastle United
Brentford and Newcastle United are set to trade tackles at the Gtech Community Stadium in a tasty-looking Premier League season finale.
Despite flirting with the drop zone toward the end of the 2023/24 campaign, Brentford have weathered the storm and come into the season finale 13 points of the bottom three after winning three of their last five league matches (D1, L1). Nonetheless, this is Brentford’s lowest finish in their relatively short Premier League history, perhaps explaining why long-serving boss Thomas Frank is on the verge of leaving the club. He’ll be keen to mark his final game in charge with a win against a Newcastle side he has lost to in their last four top-flight H2Hs. Worryingly for the Bees, they’ve only won one Premier League home match since the start of February (D4, L2), netting under 1.5 goals in six of those seven clashes.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United’s dismal 3-2 defeat at Manchester United in midweek Premier League action means they must win in London to secure Europa Conference League qualification without looking over their shoulder. Level on points with Man Utd, seventh-placed Newcastle boast a better goal difference, but that’s least thanks to their away form. Eddie Howe’s men have lost four of their last six Premier League games on the road (W2), conceding 2+ goals in each defeat! But the Magpies have excelled in the front third, tallying an outstanding 81-goal tally for the first time in a 38-match Premier League campaign. They’ll likely add to their club record, considering they’ve scored precisely twice on both previous Premier League visits to the Gtech Community Stadium (W2).
