Manchester City vs West Ham United

It’s a potentially historic moment at the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City entertain West Ham United in the Premier League season finale.

History beckons for Manchester City as they head into the season finale two points clear of second-placed Arsenal following a crucial 2-0 midweek win at Tottenham. An unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title is within touching distance for Pep Guardiola’s overachievers, with a fourth successive league win against West Ham mandatory to avoid depending on Arsenal’s result against Everton. Expectations are high after the Citizens won their last three home league outings by 4+ goals ‘to one,’ not to mention dispatching West Ham in seven straight H2Hs at the Etihad. History backs Man City for success. All nine previous examples of the Premier League title race being decided on the final day saw the side to enter Gameweek 38 at the top go on to lift the crown.

As for West Ham, last weekend’s come-from-behind 3-1 home win against Luton Town helped David Moyes’ strugglers put a six-game winless run across all competitions to bed (D2, L4). But it was too little too late for the Hammers, as they’re no longer in the European picture, largely thanks to a woeful away form. Except for a 2-1 win at Wolverhampton in early April, they’ve lost three of their last four Premier League games on the road while conceding 4+ goals on each occasion! Moyes will have an added incentive to inspire West Ham to an unlikely triumph at the Etihad as he has never defeated Guardiola across their 12 previous managerial meetings in league action (D2, L10).
