Atalanta vs Fiorentina
The curtain is about to drop on the 2023/24 Serie A season as Atalanta and Fiorentina go head-to-head in the final fixture at the Gewiss Stadium.
With a first top-four finish in three years already in the bag, Atalanta head into the Serie A season finale simply looking to sign off in style. In referee Daniele Orsato’s 289th and final Serie A match, Gian Piero Gasperini’s men are pursuing their seventh consecutive league triumph in their second outing since demolishing Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final to win their first continental silverware. ‘La Dea’ thrashed Torino 3-0 at home last time out, making it eight wins across their ten most recent competitive games (D1, L1). Their only slip-up in that sequence was a 1-0 loss to Juventus in the Coppa Italia final. However, beating Fiorentina would see them claim their vengeance on ‘I Bianconeri’ by leapfrogging them into third in the table.
On the other hand, Fiorentina will end the season in eight, no matter the outcome. With four points separating them from seventh-placed Lazio, Vincenzo Italiano’s men can’t go up as they have to settle for another season in the Europa Conference League. Perhaps the third time could be the charm for ‘La Viola’ after Olympiacos’ extra-time winner condemned them to a second consecutive defeat in the Conference League title-deciding fixture. Bergamo is not an ideal place for the Tuscan outfit to find comfort after another European heartbreak. They’ve lost their last two competitive visits to Atalanta, including a disastrous 4-1 defeat in Coppa Italia action in April. Additionally, they’ve only won three matches on the road in 2024 (D4, L8).
