Petrocub vs Ordabasy
Petrocub and Ordabasy are set to square off in an evenly-poised Champions League qualifying tie at the Stadionul Zimbru.
This tie could still go either way following an ill-tempered 0-0 draw in the first leg that featured six yellow cards, three on each side. Petrocub failed to take home what would’ve been a precious win, yet they’ve maintained their aura of invincibility in 2024, all competitions included (W12, D4). Back to Chisinau, where they’ve won all nine competitive outings this calendar year – including eight via multi-goal margins – the hosts will be confident about reaching a third stage of qualifying for a major European competition for only the third time in the club’s history. However, the Hincesti Lions can’t afford to take anything for granted, considering they’ve registered just two wins in their nine previous European games on home soil (D2, L5).
In the meantime, since making their European debut in 2012/13, Ordabasy have only won one of their nine qualifying ties, most recently in the 2019/20 Europa League campaign. Their woeful performances on the road have seen them pick up just two wins across their eight previous continental travels (D2, L4). As if that’s not alarming enough, they’ve conceded 2+ goals in five of their last seven European games away from home. On a more positive note, Aleksandar Sendyov’s men haven’t lost any of their eight competitive away matches in 2024 (W4, D4), conceding under 1.5 goals on each occasion whilst winning their last two by a combined score of 4-1.
