AC Milan vs Cagliari

AC Milan will be desperate to return to winning ways when they take on bottom-half Cagliari at the Stadio San Siro.

Milan shared the spoils with Genoa in a topsy-turvy 3-3 home draw last weekend, extending their underwhelming winless run in Serie A to four games for the first time this season (D3, L1). Despite failing to win any of their last six competitive outings (D3, L3), ‘I Rossoneri’ ought to be confident about ending their season on a high, having won ten of their 12 most recent meetings with Cagliari (D2), with four of their six home triumphs in that period yielding a three-goal margin. Replicating that success would see Stefano Pioli’s side secure a runner-up finish with two games to spare. However, Milan can’t take anything for granted after only winning twice in their last five home league games (D2, L1).

On the other hand, 10-man Cagliari held Lecce to a dramatic 1-1 draw in Sardinia last week to extend their winless Serie A streak to four matches (D3, L1), albeit stay three points clear of 18th-placed Udinese. Worryingly for veteran coach Claudio Ranieri, his men are amongst the worst travelers in the Italian top flight, with only two sides picking up fewer away points than Cagliari’s eight. Indeed, the Sardianians have won just once on 17 Serie A trips this term (D5, L11), courtesy of a narrow 1-0 triumph at bottom-half Empoli in early March. Goals have been at a premium for Cagliari on the road, as they’ve mustered just 11 at an average of 0.64 per game!
