Argentina vs Estonia
Estadio El Sadar is the venue as reigning Copa America champions Argentina take on Baltic minnows Estonia in an international friendly.
Fresh from a 3-0 Finalissima thumping of Euro 2020 winners Italy, high-flying Argentina will look to pick up where they left off at Wembley Stadium last time out. Since a 2-0 loss to arch-rivals Brazil at 2019 Copa America, ‘La Albiceleste’ have gone unbeaten in their last 32 international games (W21, D11). What’s more, except for a 1-1 away draw with Ecuador in their most recent World Cup qualifying fixture, Lionel Scaloni’s men have won all four remaining matches in 2022, including three without conceding. It should set them up nicely for this seemingly straightforward task as Argentina remain hell-bent on gathering momentum ahead of their mouth-watering World Cup qualifier against Brazil in September.
Meanwhile, Estonia cruised to a 2-0 home victory of FIFA’s worst-ranked nation San Marino in the UEFA Nations League last time out. Despite bringing a stressful five-game winless streak to a halt (D1, L4), Thomas Haberli’s lads are likely to suffer another heavy defeat against the South American heavyweights. Disregarding their routine triumph over San Marino, the Estonians have failed to score in four of their last six internationals. But they found the net in a 3-1 defeat to FIFA’s #2 side Belgium in November 2021. Scoring may not be Estonia’s only problem here. They’ve also conceded 2+ goals in three of their last five outings, suggesting Argentina’s star-studded attack may have a field day in Pamplona.
