Atalanta vs Juventus
Gewiss Stadium sets the stage for a mouth-watering Serie A top-five six-pointer between Atalanta and Juventus.
Atalanta’s form has recently fallen off a cliff. After a dismal 2-0 defeat to Inter Milan in their Supercoppa Italiana semi-final tie, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side shared the spoils with Udinese in a tepid 0-0 draw last weekend. Back-to-back scoring blanks paint a bleak picture for ‘La Dea’ as they bid to defy a dreadful run of three scoreless meetings against Juventus from their last four (D2, L2). The impending return to Bergamo should bolster their case, considering reigning Champions League holders Real Madrid remain the only side to beat Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium since September (W7, D1). The hosts have emphatically responded to that defeat, thumping Cesena and Empoli by an aggregate score of 9-3 to extend their winning home streak against domestic opposition to seven matches.
In the meantime, Juventus’ early fortunes in 2025 have been a carbon copy of Atalanta’s slumps, as they bowed out of the Super Cup semi-finals before drawing 1-1 at Torino a few days ago. Remarkably, it was their 12th Serie A stalemate in 19 games this season (W7), hence a substantial 14-point deficit on pacesetters Napoli. Despite remaining the only team in Italy’s top flight yet to taste defeat this season, Thiago Motta’s men have drawn six of their last seven league fixtures (W1), starting to frustrate the Turin faithful. If it’s any consolation, the record-time Italian champions haven’t lost a single away match in 2024/25 (W5, D7), though five of their last six have ended all square (W1), with just one featuring over 2.5 goals.
