Atletico Madrid vs Osasuna

Atletico Madrid will be looking to mathematically seal another top-four finish in La Liga when they face Osasuna at the Metropolitano Stadium.

After an eye-catching run of three consecutive La Liga wins by an aggregate score of 13-4, Atletico Madrid slumped to relegation-bound Elche 1-0 on the road last weekend. However, an 11th straight top-four finish looks like a near-certainty for Diego Simeone as his men start this round 12 points clear of fifth-placed Villarreal. One of the main reasons behind Atletico’s rock-solid position in the top-four race is their formidable home form, with ‘Los Rojiblancos’ winning their last seven home league outings. That run forms part of Atletico’s nine-game unbeaten home stretch (W8, D1), with five of those eight victories yielding multi-goal margins. Another satisfying result could be in store this weekend as Simeone’s lads take on an Osasuna side they’ve defeated in their last nine encounters in La Liga.

In the meantime, visiting Osasuna bounced back from a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final with a commanding 3-1 home win over bottom-half Almeria last weekend, halting a disappointing run of three losses in all competitions. However, the visitors have been far from impressive on the road lately, picking up just one victory on their last five La Liga travels (D1, L3). Against this backdrop, Jagoba Arrasate’s men have claimed points in two of their three most recent trips to meet Madrid-based clubs in La Liga (W1, D1, L1), finding the net on each occasion. However, they’ve ended up empty-handed in all six top-flight meetings with Atletico in Madrid during Simeone’s reign, failing to score in three of the last four.
