Barcelona vs Cadiz

Camp Nou is the venue as Barcelona and Cadiz meet in a lopsided 2023/23 La Liga fixture.

Barcelona’s La Liga title defense was off to a dismal start as they drew 0-0 at perennial relegation strugglers Getafe on the opening weekend. Strapped for cash, the ‘Blaugrana’ sold star forward Ousmane Dembele to PSG without signing a replacement in the build-up to this fixture. However, Xavi Hernandez’s side reigned supreme on home turf last season, losing just once in 19 league outings at Camp Nou (W15, D3) en route to picking up a league-high 48 home points. Almost impenetrable in Catalonia, Barcelona conceded only four goals in those 19 fixtures, a trend that’s likely to improve considering they let in an average of 0.5 goals per game in their last four home league meetings with Cadiz (W2, D1, L1).

In the meantime, Cadiz only barely survived another dramatic relegation scrap last term, finishing just two points clear of the drop zone, mainly thanks to a morale-boosting run of three unbeaten games in their final four league matches (W2, D1). Sergio Gonzalez’s side got the new La Liga campaign off to a promising start, registering a narrow 1-0 home win over newly-promoted Deportivo Alaves. However, the problems tend to intensify on the road, with Cadiz going winless on their last five La Liga travels (D2, L3), failing to get on the scoresheet on three occasions. A lack of firepower tormented Cadiz in 2022/23, as they netted a meager average of only 0.57 goals per league travel!
