Borussia Dortmund vs Wolfsburg
Signal Iduna Park is the venue as Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg go head-to-head in an exciting Bundesliga match-up.
Borussia Dortmund’s 2-0 win away to relegation-battling Stuttgart last time out ended their two-game winless Bundesliga streak (D1, L1) to bring them on the cusp of a sixth second-place finish in the past decade. Marco Rose’s men have recorded a noticeable defensive improvement compared to the start of the season. After keeping just two clean sheets in their opening 21 Bundesliga matches, BVB have completed five shutouts across their last eight league outings. They could further improve that record here, having kept Wolfsburg at bay in all five previous top-flight H2Hs at home, winning four of them by a 2+ goal margin (D1). But following a disheartening 4-1 crashing to Leipzig in their most recent Bundesliga home game, Dortmund could lose back-to-back league fixtures at the Signal Iduna Park for the first time since December 2020.
In the meantime, Wolfsburg cruised to an overwhelming 4-0 home win over 16th-placed Arminia Bielefeld last time out, halting a dismal run of three consecutive Bundesliga defeats. However, playing away from home has not been Wolfsburg’s strong suit of late, as they’ve only won once in their last nine Bundesliga matches on the road (D2, L6), drawing a blank five times in this sequence. Despite finding themselves on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline in the reverse fixture, Wolfsburg at least ended a run of nine successive top-flight H2Hs without scoring. Worryingly, though, a lack of defensive strength has seen ‘Die Wolfe’ concede 2+ goals in four of their last five Bundesliga away games, at an average of 2.5 per match.
