Borussia Monchengladbach vs Bayern Munich
One of the standout fixtures of the first Bundesliga weekend of 2025 pits Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayern Munich against each other at Borussia-Park.
Borussia Monchengladbach got their European aspirations back on track at the tail-end of 2024, going from back-to-back winless league matches (D1, L1) to two consecutive victories to close the gap on fourth-placed RB Leipzig to three points. Three consecutive Bundesliga wins have eluded Gladbach since June 2020. However, after securing the first set of successive league triumphs for the first time since March 2022, Gerardo Seoane’s men will take the field in a buoyant mood. Bayern’s visit shouldn’t faze them much, even though they’ve gone from a five-game unbeaten H2H run (W3, D2) to two losses on the trot, including a 2-1 defeat in this corresponding fixture last term. Yet, they’ve been impressive at home this season, managing five wins from eight league games here (D1, L2).
On the other hand, Bayern Munich’s effort to reclaim domestic supremacy after relinquishing their decade-long stranglehold on the division last season has recently stuttered. Indeed, Vincent Kompany’s men alternated between winning (2) and not (D1, L1) across their final four Bundesliga matches of 2024, albeit rounding out the calendar year with a thumping 5-1 home triumph against Leipzig. There’s no room for complacency ahead of this trip, with the Bavarians dropping points in three of their last five away league fixtures (D2, L1) while netting precisely once in the most recent three. Furthermore, with second-placed Leverkusen now only a point adrift, Kompany’s men must defy their unenviable record of just one win from their last six visits to Borussia-Park (D1, L4).
