Burnley vs Crystal Palace

Turf Moor is the venue as Burnley and Crystal Palace face off against each other in a bottom-half Premier League encounter.

Pressure continues to build on Vincent Kompany after Everton crashed Burnley out of the League Cup with a scintillating 3-0 midweek win at Goodison Park, pouring more misery on the ‘Clarets’ following a 2-1 league loss at Bournemouth last weekend. Scoring first again failed to help the Premier League newcomers grab points as they lost a joint-high third top-flight match in which they’ve opened the scoring this season. Despite bringing Burnley back to the elite society in a record-breaking fashion, Kompany is losing out on crowd support, highlighting the importance of helping his side extend a five-game unbeaten streak against Palace (W3, D2). But since his men have lost all five home league games this term, including four via multi-goal margins, the H2H pales to irrelevance.

On the other hand, visiting Crystal Palace won’t touch down in Lancashire bearing gifts as they bid to end a three-game winless run in the Premier League (D1, L2) and potentially find a way out of the lower reaches. However, Roy Hodgson’s men have traveled poorly in recent months, managing just one win on their last four Premier League trips (D1, L2), most recently succumbing to a disastrous 4-0 defeat at Newcastle United. Worryingly for Hodgson, his track record against Burnley is anything but promising, with the veteran manager going winless in his last five H2Hs against the ‘Clarets’ (D1, L4). That can hardly inspire confidence in the traveling camp, promising a catastrophe in Hodgson’s 501st game in charge of an English club in all competitions.
